Any TV with an HDMI port can become a display with an Amazon Fire TV stick, including older TVs that can't be controlled over the network. TVs with Fire TV built in work the same way, without a stick.
What you need
- A Fire TV stick or a TV with Fire TV built in (tested on the Fire TV Stick AFTKM and a Fire TV 4-Series TV).
- Fully Kiosk Browser on the Fire TV (installed once, with Amazon's Downloader app).
- A Windows computer that stays on, on the same network, running DisplayValet.
Setup
- Unlock Developer Options on the Fire TV: Settings → My Fire TV → About → select the device name 7 times.
- Install Downloader from the Appstore and use it to install Fully Kiosk Browser.
- In DisplayValet, press Find displays and add the Fire TV. Its card shows an address: set it as Fully Kiosk's Start URL.
- Optional, for on/off schedules: turn on ADB debugging (Developer Options), press Connect, and choose Always allow on the TV.
Good to know
- Some older TVs don't switch off when the Fire TV sleeps; use the TV's own on/off timer for those.
- Fire TV devices play video as well as pictures.
